Combating Domestic Violence Against Women Project
“Combating Domestic Violence against Women Project” had been signed in November 2006 as a component of “Promoting Gender Equality Project” with the purposes of promoting gender equality and protecting women’s human rights in Turkey. The project had two years duration and was implemented by the Directorate General on the Status of Women (KSGM) between December 2006- December 2008, with the financial support of the European Union (EU), and the technical support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); within the framework of the European Union’s Pre-Accession Financial Program 2005 for Turkey.
The project budget was 2.968.180 euros and Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Trabzon were identified as pilot provinces in order to ensure regional distribution for the nationwide replication of project outputs.
The Project has strengthened the capacities of public agencies that provide services to women victimized by or under the risk of domestic violence. It has improved the communication and cooperation amongst stakeholders. It did contribute to awareness-raising and sensitization on the subject matter.
